Trunk Club Review: May 2016

Can you tell that I am loving this service?! For an explanation of Trunk Club and to see my previous trunks you can click the links below:

Lets start off with the things I will not be providing photos of:
All items above were returned as they are not really my style nor did they fit very well.

These high waisted shorts I was torn about because they are on trend and fit amazing. I ultimately chose to return them, I am really not sure how incorporate them in my everyday wear to make them worth the price. The tank was returned as well, I just didn't love it or need it.

Comfortable but way too big - Returned

Super cute but the fabric was a little stiff for my taste - Returned

I was really hoping this world work, it would have been perfect for a nice dinner while on vacation. Not to mention it was on sale from $158 to $59. Sadly, the dress was too large. - Returned

Again, I wish I was attending a million weddings this year. How stunning is the back if this dress? I love the detail on the back where the fabric parts and exposes a thick gold zipper. - Returned

WOW... I would have never looked twice at this dress in the store but I love that it is so different and stunning! (Also, on sale for $70) - Unsure

Decisions, decisions, this little number would look fabulous for a dinner on the beach! The fate of this beauty will result on the previous dress, and my pocketbook of course! - Unsure

Finally, the shoes!! Although I love the tan pair and the simplicity of them, I have far, FAR too many shoes - Returned

So I will say it again, if you haven't tried Trunk Club you need to ASAP:

Trunk Club Review: April 2016

If you are unaware of what Trunk Club is you can check my previous post here: Trunk Club Review: March 2016. With some vacations in my future I thought it would be fun to reach out to my stylist and request a trunk with all vacation clothing. My stylist Lindsay did not disappoint with this trunk, lets get to it:

This dress was adorable but was a little too big and showed off a little too much cleavage for my taste:
Returned

I liked this dress when I saw the picture but the fabric was too stiff and itchy:
Returned

I was really torn about this dress, I love the style but something in the sizing was just off:
Returned

Oh my goodness can someone please get married?! I need to own this dress and have an event to wear it to... until then:
Returned

Too snug in the waist and too big in the bust... never had that problem before...:
Returned

This dress felt like pajamas...I want to live in this dress!! Back to reality: the dress is $178 and is a tad too big:
Returned

Love, love, love... but the fabric is extremely heavy and would be too warm in hot climates:
Returned

Too cute... but too expensive:
Returned

This shirt was actually on sale from $79... I like it but it's nothing special:
Returned

I would never pick these out or try them on but they are beautiful and so comfortable!:
Kept

Size large... Too big:
Returned

If this jumpsuit didn't have pockets that sit on the hips it would have been a real contender:
Returned

Itchy, itchy, itchy:
Returned

Lets be honest... I do not need shoes:
Returned &
Returned

Looking at the fact that I only bought one item, you would think this trunk was unsuccessful. BUT this service does exactly what I want it to do. It opens up my style and helps me step outside of the comfort zone. I would have never purchased or even looked twice that the pair of pants I choose to keep, but now I want to wear them everyday. I don't want to collect clothes but add a piece here and there that I am 100% in love with.

Sample Saturday: Dr. Lipp Miracle Balm

Dr. Lipp Miracle Balm (Sample Size 3ml)

$16.50 (15ml) available at BirchBox.com

All I can say about this product is that I think I like it. The reason I only think I like it is that on the second use I have to struggle to get anything out of the tube. I understand samples are small but what a waste to send me this little tube with basically nothing in it. The balm did last long on my lips through eating and drinking but as for healing power I don't really know.

Sample Saturday: GLAMGLOW THIRSTYMUD™ Hydrating Treatment

GLAMGLOW THIRSTYMUD™ Hydrating Treatment

$22 avaliable at Sephora

 - - -

I was surprised at the color and the consistency of this product at first but it really does perform.

Once applied to my face I immediately felt a cooling sensation as the mask went to work. After it was rinsed off, my skin felt amazingly hydrated.

Although this product does what it says, I have a number of other skin issues and would prefer a product that has multiple benefits and not just one. With that said, If you are suffering from dry skin and are not concerned with any other possible skin conditions or don't have any I would suggest heading over to Sephora and picking this up.

Trunk Club Review: March 2016

I was recently notified that a new subscription box had hit the market. At first I was not interested as new subscription boxes seem to pop up daily but… Two things caught my attention, it’s a FREE personal styling service, and it’s owned by Nordstrom! Trunk Club was originally independently owned and was a styling service for just men. Nordstrom purchased the company and opened the styling service to women as well. The service itself is free of charge, they send around fifteen items (clothing, shoes, jewelry, etc.) to your home and allow ten days for you to try on decide if you are going to keep anything and mail the trunk back. You get free shipping both ways and can even schedule a UPS pickup from your house with no additional cost. All the items sent are items that are sold at Nordstrom in store as well as online. If an item happens to be on sale at Nordstrom you will also get the same sale price in your trunk. After a couple of initial questions your stylist will send you a preview of your trunk, then you are able to select items that you are not interested in receiving. Your stylist will replace those items and send out your trunk! Another fun feature of this service is that when your trunk arrives your stylist will send you an e-mail with suggested outfits made up completely from what you can find inside your trunk. You can set up your service to receive it monthly or even just contact your stylist and order just one trunk. Your stylist is your stylist and you will always have a direct line of communication to just her.

I decided I wanted to try out the service because I had nothing to lose and there was no obligation to buy. Nordstrom can be pricey so I made sure to tell my stylist to keep the cost on the low end of things. Of course I was expecting a few big ticket items to be thrown in my trunk.

Below are the items I received in my trunk:

Next I will show you the outfit suggestions I received as well as pictures of me trying on the suggestions:

All in all I was really impressed by this service. In the future when I need an outfit for an event or something special I will probably contact my stylist and order a trunk! If you are interested in trying out this service you can click the link below to be connected to my personal stylist:

Sample Saturday: St. Ives Refresh and Revive Pear Nectar and Soy Body Lotion

St. Ives Refresh and Revive Pear Nectar and Soy Body Lotion 21 oz

$4.96 (21oz) available at Target.com

Believe it or not St. Ives partnered with Influenster and sent me full size products to try and review.

Pros:
Paraben free
Comes with a pump
Great smell
A little goes a long way
Inexpensive

 Cons:
It's not the most moisturizing lotion I have ever used
I feel the need to reapply every couple of hours

In the future I think I like this product enough to pick up if I can get a decent deal on it (or if I had a coupon). Even at $4.96 I don't think I would pay full price.

Sample Saturday: Mitchell and Peach Body Cream English Leaf

Mitchell and Peach Body Cream English Leaf (Sample Size 1.01 fl oz.)

$69.97 (180 ml) available at Fishpond.com

One of my favorite things to receive samples of is lotion. I love having miniature lotions on my desk at work to use throughout the day. I've received products from Mitchell and Peach before and really liked the quality. This lotion however I don't care for. The lotion felt as if it was hydrating your skin at first but once an hour went by my hands felt as dry as they were before applying. Considering I couldn't really find where to purchase this lotion, the price, and the effectiveness, I am not interested in purchasing a full size.

Sample Saturday: Malin+Goetz Clarifying Clay Mask

Malin+Goetz Clarifying Clay Mask (Sample Size .50 oz.)

$48.00 (3.4 oz.) available at Barneys.com

Pros: This mask leaves your face smooth, soft, and clean. It dries quickly and also exfoliates your skin very well.  I was surprised at the thickness but it is a clay mask. It retains its shape coming out of the tube but spreads easily over your face. I really enjoyed this mask and cannot wait to use up the rest of my sample.

Cons: $$$

I would not purchase this product in the future just based on the price. If you are willing to pay the price I highly recommend this mask.

New Favorite Nail Polish Brand?

A couple of weeks ago I picked up the above nail polish to try out. I have been hearing great things about this gel polish but never wanted to take the plunge after realizing that they were $9.99 each. Well, I am sure you can guess but I picked these up for $2.50 each using coupons. The claims of this product are that it lasts twice as long and looks twice as good. Well, I have to disagree:

One day shy of a week after I applied the polish this is what my nails looked like. Granted, I am very hard on my nails and am consistently typing at my job (as you can see from the tips) but I expected more. The finish was the same as any other nail top coats and nothing about the product really caught my attention. One strange thing that did happen was that on two of my fingers the polish started to peel off from the cuticle. It's back to OPI for this girl!

- - -

A product that I will recomend is this nail treatment:

It is a tad pricey (if you don't use coupons) but it is well worth it. As I said above I am rough on my nails but using this product and eating well helped my nails to stop peeling and grow longer and stronger.

Sample Saturday: EVA NYC Therapy Session Hair Mask

EVA NYC Therapy Session Hair Mask (Sample Size 2.03 fl. oz.)

$14.99 (16.9 fl. oz.) available at Ulta.com

Pros: The smell of this product is amazing and it does stay on your hair for about a day. The consistency is nice.

Cons: This mask left my hair feeling stripped and I felt that it weighed my hair down. My hair was harder to style after using this product and got tangled very easy.

I would not purchase this product in the future even though it is well priced.

Holiday Travel: JetBlue Review

As most of you know I am a huge fan of Delta Airlines and try to fly with them each and every time I fly. Holiday travel can be extremely expensive and this year we were looking at having to fly into the west coast on Christmas morning to save some money. Fortunately I found reasonably priced
flight with JetBlue that would land us in San Jose (direct flight) on Christmas Eve. I've only heard good things about JetBlue so I was curious to see how the trip would unfold. (after I got past the frustration that we would not be receiving 3x the miles because we were not flying with Delta) To my shock I quickly learned that this is an airline my husband and I will be avoiding at all costs. The JetBlue terminal is extremely organized and security is a five minute ordeal. Other than that this airline left a lot to be desired. I understand that when you book cheaper airlines you lose amenities but I was not aware this airline was in that category. They provided no "food for purchase" on board but only offered snack boxes. Very strange for a 6+ hour flight. All the entertainment they offered had to be purchased and you had to watch it starting 20 minutes into the flight or it would be unavailable. All blankets, pillows, and headsets were an extra fee. (Delta provides these for free) Overall it was a decent travel experience but I felt like the airline was attempting to nickel and dime us the entire trip just to make an extra buck. So long JetBlue this couple will remain with Delta.

Review Edition: 1984 by: George Orwell

Although I did like the story line I struggled with this book. I hate to give classics bad reviews but I like to think that its just not my style of book. The writing was really descriptive and sometimes I feel like it wasn't necessary. I also have read that this is a more enjoyable read when reading it in a group because it really is a book that would produce very good group discussions. (Ex: High School when I should have read it but I never did the reading) All in all I am glad I read it but I don't think I will be again.

Review Edition: Baby Proof by: Emily Giffin

I did enjoy this book but in the beginning things seemed to fall apart too quickly. Through out the book I was hoping for the best but I wish things had work themselves out a little differently. One thing I love about Emily Giffin is that in each of her books the story takes off from the first page and sucks you in. I really wish this book was a little longer just because I think the ending should have been a little more explained. I hate when movies or books end the way you want them to then it cuts off right after that.

Review Edition: The Acciental Bestseller by: Wendy Wax

This book started out a tad slow and at first I didn't think I was going to like it. After a little while I was hooked. It gives insider knowledge about the publishing world and it's pros and cons. If you are a book lover as I am, you will enjoy learning about how a book is thought up, put on paper, published, and marketed. There is a huge twist towards the end of the book that really peeked my interest. I would totally recommend this book.
